There’s just something about Saskatoon.
Maybe it’s walking along the river on a warm summer evening. Maybe it’s taking the kids to Kinsmen Park for the hundredth train ride. Maybe it’s driving across one of our bridges and catching that perfect view of the Bessborough.
Whatever it is, Saskatoon has a way of feeling like home.
At The Little Tooth, we’re proud to be part of this community — and even prouder that we get to take care of so many of the little smiles growing up here.
The River Is Right in the Middle of Everything
It’s hard to talk about Saskatoon without starting with the South Saskatchewan River.
There are a few of the best family days in the city that don’t require much planning at all. Grab the bikes and head down the Meewasin trails. Walk through Kiwanis Memorial Park. Stop at River Landing. Find a bench and watch the river go by.
You can start near the Broadway Bridge, head toward downtown and end up with one of the best views of the city.
And when the leaves start changing in the fall? It’s tough to beat.
The river valley and its trail system are a vital link between Saskatoon’s parks and neighbourhoods, and are one of the things that make Saskatoon a city.
Kinsmen Park Is Basically a Saskatoon Childhood Tradition
Ask someone who grew up in Saskatoon about Kinsmen Park, and there’s a good chance they remember riding the train.
Today, Nutrien Playland at Kinsmen Park still has the train, Ferris wheel, and children’s play area — right beside one of the city’s oldest parks.
It’s one of those easy Saskatoon outings for parents. Ride the train. Let the kids run around. Pack a picnic. Walk over toward the river.
Nothing complicated. However, this is the type of day that children remember.
We Have Some Pretty Great Rainy-Day Options Too
Because this is Saskatchewan, sometimes the weather has other plans. That’s when places like Nutrien Wonderhub come in handy.
Wonderhub is Saskatchewan’s only children’s museum and gives kids a chance to climb, build, create, and explore. There’s Toon Town for imaginative play, the Discovery Mine, A-Mazing Airways, Cosmic Commotion, and even Little Bridges, which was inspired by Saskatoon’s bridges and designed specifically for younger children.
One of those places where children can burn off some energy while learning in secret.
We’ll take that combination any day.
A Day at the Forestry Farm Never Gets Old
Another place that makes Saskatoon feel like a place where I grew up is the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo.
You can visit the animals, walk through the gardens, have a picnic, explore the trails and let the kids loose at the nature-themed playground.
The Forestry Farm is actually a National Historic Site, and the zoo is Saskatchewan’s only CAZA-accredited zoo.
Even if you’re looking to make a quick visit in an afternoon, there’s a fishing pond and lots of picnic spots.
It’s a place to return to for the family throughout a child’s life.
We Have World-Class Places Right in Our Backyard
When living here, one thing we tend to overlook is that Saskatoon is a city with locations that people come to see.
Wanuskewin Heritage Park is one of them. Families will discover over six kilometres of paths in a landscape of more than six thousand years of history, just outside the city. Several walking routes are available, including the Trail of the Bison and a dedicated Bison Viewing Trail.
It’s an incredible place for kids to learn, explore and understand more about the land and the Indigenous peoples who have gathered there for generations.
That’s a pretty special thing to have so close to home.
Even an Art Gallery Can Be a Family Adventure
Not to mention Remai Modern at River Landing. Parents might not think “art gallery” when planning a day with children, but Remai Modern has made family programming a reality.
Their Modern Artmakers program runs on weekends and gives families opportunities to create art inspired by current exhibitions. They also offer family programming such as stroller tours and kid-friendly events throughout the year.
Even if it’s not quite ready for the kids to come to the gallery, the building puts you right on the river, and you can walk along the river afterwards.
Every Season Feels Different Here
One of the things we love about Saskatoon is how much the city changes throughout the year.
Summer might mean splash parks, the river, playgrounds, and evenings that seem to last forever.
Fall means colourful walks along Meewasin.
Winter means outdoor rinks, sledding hills, hot chocolate, and trying to convince your child that yes, they really do need to wear their mittens.
Then spring comes, and all the playgrounds are once again filled.
Living in Saskatoon teaches you to make the most of every season.
Even the really, really cold ones.
It’s the Little Saskatoon Moments We Love Most
Of course, kids probably won’t grow up remembering every attraction they visited.
They’ll remember the little things.
- Riding the Kinsmen train.
- Seeing the grizzly bear at the Forestry Farm.
- Climbing at Wonderhub.
- Walking across the Broadway Bridge.
- Throwing rocks into the river.
- Exploring Wanuskewin.
- Running around River Landing.
Or getting home after a full Saskatchewan winter day with red cheeks, wet mittens and a huge smile. Those moments are what make a city feel like home.

We’re Proud to Take Care of Saskatoon’s Little Smiles
At The Little Tooth, we get a pretty unique view of our community.
We meet kids when they’re little. We hear about their first days of school, hockey games, dance recitals, family trips, and lost teeth. Then one day, the little one who always needed a bit of encouragement to come in to the dental chair arrives a whole lot taller.
Getting to grow alongside Saskatoon families is one of the best parts of what we do.
We love this city. We enjoy the families that live here. And we’re incredibly proud to care for Saskatoon’s little smiles.
Here’s to growing up in a pretty great place. 💙
